Parents throughout the state will benefit from the efforts of a small group of Virginia women who have been waging a campaign for years against the leading killer of young children in the Commonwealth. The amazing fact about this killer is that prevention would have saved at least 80 percent of the tiny victims and spared countless Virginia families unspeakable suffering. While this killer does not inspire the public outrage caused by disease and birth defects, it claims far more young lives. The killer is the automobile, the women are the Virginia Highway Safety Leaders, and the prevention is a crashtested child restraint device that will be required by law starting January 1.
