Effective Jan. 1, 1983

Children under age four must be secured in child safety seats while riding in a Virginia registered vehicle manufactured after Jan. 1, 1968 and driven by a parent °r legal guardian. Seats must meet Superintendent of Virginia State Police approval. Children 40 lbs. or over may be secured in a standard safety belt. Three-yearolds, whose weight and size make the use of a seat impractical, may use a safety belt.
