Kappanannock s third case of rabies, the edge of an outbreak that has swept Northern Virginia in the past year and a half, was confirmed last week by health department authorities in Fauquier Countv.
According to Helen Bridges of Washington, her grandchildren, visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday, were hiking down Jenkins Mountain when they spotted a raccoon . in a tree. The animal, not normally seen during daylight hours, was behaving strangely. "It was spitting at the children, chattering and showing its teeth." Mrs. Bridges said.
