Mrs. Paul “Russie” Miller was honored with her own special day last Sunday by the choir and congregation of Flint Hill United Methodist Church where she’s been the organist for 25 years.
After opening the service as usual, Rev. Merlin Shorb announced the Thanksgiving surprise, declaring it Russie Miller Day.
Louie Miller presented his mother with a white carnation corsage while Mrs. Sandra Foster Hawkins, one of Russie’s first piano students, accompanied the choir as it sang her favorite humn, “Is Is No Secret What God Can Do.”
Paula Miller Howell made a short presentation honoring her mother and Paula’s children, Karen, Denise, Christine, Gordon and Susan Howell, added a song, "Friendship,” to the ceremonies. Denise then read a poem about love, friendship and special people such as her grandmother.
