Anyone who has been in the woods recently will have noticed a flurry of pre-winter activity displayed by other members of the outdoor world. The mast crop has been excellent again this year and feeding activity is well evidenced by the scratching from deer and turkey. Soft mast such as berries, grapes
and dog£i%od fruit is also bountiful and migratory songbirds are well supplied with nourishment.
Biologists advise that if you plan to begin feeding birds this season, now is the time to start as winter is coming to stay. Once started, the feeding should continue until spring thaws as the birds fast become dependent upon you as their provider.
