How It Works
-—Marocchi uses four wires - two hot and two ground wires alternating. The lowest ground wire fastens to the steel posts at ground level. The upper ground wire is connected by insulated wire to the lowest ground and all lines are placed 8-10 inches apart. Hot wires, like grounds, are connected with insulated wire and then to the appropriate connection on the charger (again with insulated wire).
—Barbed wire is used, to penetrate the bear's thick insulating fur to deliver the necessary shock. A smooth wire may never make contact with the skin, resting on top of the animal's fur.
—The solar unit decreases maintenance problems by keeping a constant charge. The sun shines on a small inclined panel at the top of the unit, where photovoltaic cells transform the sun's energy into electricity and into the wires surrounding the bee-yard.
