The Washington Town Council discussed ideas for replacing the ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) overpayments made to the town for the past three years at its January meeting last Wednesday.
The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors heard at its December meeting that the town had received a $2,438.79 overpayment resulting from the wrong 'f formula applied to town sales tax revenue from ABC. The news was delivered by Wally Cox, Rappahannock’s accountant, who said he’d advised the treasure^ to withhold sales tax from the town until the money is recovered.
Town treasurer Brad Fisher Said that the town would not be receiving sales tax payments until the debt was recovered. “And when the debt is made up, our sales tax will not equal what we got before, since that was in error,’’ he said.
