Patterson told the court that he discovered his house had been broken into when he returned on July 29 after a five-day absence. Flowers outside a window had been trampled, the window screen was missing, there was dirt on the bed and a rock underneath the bed, papers in his desk had been rummaged through, “and the bathroom had been made a mess of,” Patterson said.
