First Hand
The student* from Wakefield’s government and civics classes heard all the testimony given to the jury and more. They listened in on bench conferences, arguments for and against the introduction of evidence and the debate over instructions given to the jury, all while the 12 triers of fact were sequestered behind closed doors.
After final arguments, after the jury had retired to consider a verdict, Wakefield’s assistant headmaster Peter Quinn polled his charges for their verdict. The students overwhelmingly found Clarence Stewart innocent of breaking and entering by a margin of 41 to 1. The edge was less on the petty larceny charge with 20 youngsters believing him innocent, four holding for guilty and 18 undecided. For credit card theft, 36 students found Stewart guilty and six thought him innocent.
Musical Program
The Midland^Qhurch of the Brethren Choir will present a musical at the Amissville United Methodist Church on January 30 at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to come out and enjoy this ministry of this choir.
Benefit Dinner
The Sperryville Ladies Auxiliary will have a barbecue sparrib and roast turkey dinner at the fire hall on February 5 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children and may be purchased through January 31.
A correction from last week is that there will be carry out dinners from 4:30 until 5:15 only.
