The remainder of the meeting was taken up by a capital outlay presentation by Estabrook. He reviewed for the board the history of capital improvements recommended locally and by a committee visiting the school in 1980, and went over room by room space utilization in both schools. He referred to the 1980 report on high school capital improvements, which recommended various classroom additions and a new cafeteria and library. The cost of the 1980 recommendations, adjusted for inflation, would be SI,626,102 Estabrook said, an amount that the board could not realistically hope to get in these times. Estabrook’s alternative, which he emphasized was ju$t a rough idea with some free architectural advice, was to construct a new4, gymnasium behind the school, with internal space freed by the present gym rearranged to provide the classroom, library, cafeteria and custodial space needed. Estabrook estimated that the cost of such a structure would be about $500,000 or one-third of the one-and-ahalf Million required with the other plan, based solely on new construction. The board will discuss Estabrook’s presentation at its February meeting.
