Among the volunteers is Moregan Zale of Flint Hill, who said she’d be glad to talk to any other area residents who’d like to help at the food bank. Her number is 6753753. Also needed are those with surplus food to donate.
Paul would like to see more Rappahannock agencies use his warehouse. “It would be ideal for one of the churches to make a monthly trip and keep a stock there for other agencies who serve the poor and needy,” he said.
Any group that is eligible for a 501 c (3) tax exemption can use the services of the food bank. There is also food available for families who suffer a sudden catastrophe. On Monday, Paul was talking to a minister who had a family burned out of their home. He arranged to meet them at the warehouse to restock.
“All that's necessary is for a family to contact their minister or a local non-profit group,” Paul said. “Lions, Ruritans, Moose lodges are also eligible for our food.”
The Winchester warehouse is one of three in the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Inc. There are others in Staunton and Charlottesville. All are part of the network of 42 food banks in 42 states, providing a second harvest for people with nowhere else to turn.
