Possibly the closest competition for the Rappahannock person to be trusted was in selecting the one whom one would go to for advice in purchasing a new or a used car, or for repair and servicing. Repairmen and automobile mechanics in Rappahannock County, we found have strong supporters. It was the opinion of the group supervising this poll that any number of persons might have been entered from the county, and won against the world. A choice had ^o be made. It feel to the Baldwin Brothers of Sperryville to carry the county banner. They carried it well against strong competition, in the new car division fa^r.g Jshr. De Lorean, and Lee Iacocca, of Chrysler and television fame; in the selection of a used car, against* former President Richard Nixon, of whom it was asked in one campaign “Would you buy a used car from this man?” In the special contest over repairs and service, the Baldwin Brothers had to take on Mr. Midas and Mr. Coodwjcpnch. The fact that the Baldwins or some of their relatives^,also deal in hides, furs, and ginseng did not seem to be a factor, either positive or negative, in the support they received relative to the automobile. John Glasker of Holim Hollow was considered in a separate test as the best man to go to, if you had a car which you believed would never run again.
The original target of covering all ten areas of trust testing in two articles has been revised. It will take at least one more report to cover the last three. The delay is due principally to the nature of the polling or inquiries that are the basis for the findings being reported. The methods have not been direct and unsubtle. No direct mail, no telephone calls, no house visits or confrontation. The opinions have been gathered quietly and subtly, in country stores, before and after church services, in post offices? at hunt breakfasts, or cutting wood. Few persons whose opinions have been used as a basis for this report ev6n "know that they have been contributors.
