In a letter to prospective contributors, co-chairman Col. James T. White of Flint Hill said that “such services would not have been possible” without generous support from the community. White and Fauquier cochairman Mrs. Morris Parris are seeking new contributors. According td Fauquier Chapter records, last year fewer than 1,000 persons donated to the chapter, although the population of Fauquier and Rappahannock counties exceeds 41,000.

In their review of last year’s activities, Mrs. Parris and Col. White cited the following: in first aid, 21 instructors taught 48 courses and awarded 575 certificates; in water safety, 12 instructors taught 39 courses (including one for the handicapped) and awarded 289 certificates; in blood services, 1,204 units (pints) were collected from 828 donors in 22 Bloodmobile visits, bringing the chapter a citation for national headquarters for again exceeding its quota; in service to military families and veterans, the chapter responded to 134 appeals for assistance; in disaster services, 32 people were furnished with food, furnishings and medical care; in volunteer services, 38 people worked at the hospital, the nursing homes, the Vint Hill Farms Station dispensary and Red Cross bloodmobiles.

While there will be some house-to-house canvassing for funds, the chapter counts heavily on mailed contributions, which can be sent to: American Red Cross, 53 South Third Street, Warrenton, 22186.
