AT SUNNYWHEN FARMS, farm manager George Smoot raises vegetable bedding flower and house plants in the large greenhouse. Before planting, Smoot soaks the planting medium weir with water. Smoot said that he buys a commercial planting soil as it is weed-free. Then he broadcasts the seeds evenly over the flat. When they put forth their true leaves, it’s time to transplant them. Smoot gently removes them with his fingers and transplants six in each small divided pack for sale, (above). Smoot said that he gives his plants a lot of light, careful, individual attention and never loses a one!
