In the private sector, his experience ranges from Washington correspondent for the Gazette and Daily of York, Pennsylvania, and managing editor of the Educational Research Bureau (formerly the Scripps Howard Newspaper Information Service) to manager of a wholesale business and a gift shop, the Lee Street shop, after his family’s move to Warrenton in 1968.

In Fauquier County, Keesey served nearly six years as president of FORE, the sponsoring agency for a sheltered workshop for the handicapped. He was also president and legislative chairman for the local chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
