The Wakefield School alpine racing team has wrapped up a third successful season. This year, the team of six students travelled to ten resorts in four states to compete in thirtyeight slalom and giant slalom races. Nineteen of these races were U. S. Ski Association sanctioned races.
In USSA races, the team took 15 first places and captured two of eight Virginias Cups. The cups are awarded to the best junior competitors in USSA races in Virginia and West Virginia. The cup winners were Ruth Holliday, 17, of Middletown, who for the second year too the girls’ cup in the 16-18 year age group, and Morgan Andreae, 11, of Bentonville, who took the boys cup in the 11 and under age group.
The team also sent Frans Hansen, 17, of Middleburg, to compete in the Pennsylvannia State Derby, and invitation-only championship for the region of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania,
