Eighth grader Jonathan Watson, the youngest member of the RCHS squad and the youngest quizzer in the entire competition, has promised to read the entire encyclopedia over the summer, according to coach Elinchum.
"Jonathan really sounds like he’s out to get them next year,” Will said. “1 guess we all are.”
His sister Ann Oliver, captain of the Rappahannock team, acknowledged that she and her compatriots were a little slow on the buzzer last Thursday. “And we had some wrong answers. That gave Waynesboro a second chance with ten seconds more to think about it.”
She’s still smarting over missing the question on the name of the kneecap bone. “Patella—I’ll remember that for the rest of my life! And if you’d asked me before the contest, I probably could have told you. I guess it was the pressure,” the team leader explained.
Elinchum thinks that taking part in the Pop Quiz competition has taught the youngsters an important lesson: knowledge has its own rewards. And it’s a lesson that the entire school - not
