years not a single position has been “RIFFED” but, on the contrary, teachers and supervisory personnel have been added continually and a majority of the school board asks for two more teachers this year, without being able to tell the taxpayers or the Wakefield member where in hell or in the schools they are now needed or will be placed. They are “in case of need” teachers!
Meanwhile, during these four years, the amount by which Rappahannock County taxpayers have laid their taxes on the line in excess of the local funding required by state mandate (required expenditure per pupil under state Standards of Quality)—this “extra” local funding has grown from $158,983 in 1979-80 to $435,431 in the current year! And this generous excess local funding has taken place despite the fact that the required expenditure per pupil has itself increased from $960 to $1,464 over the same period!
The price we must pay to remain free men?
The time has come—it is way past time—for Rappahannock citizens to join with one voice, directed at present and future supervisors, present and future school board members, and hired public school administrators.
