Town Hosts Fair
The Great Middleburg Antiques, Collectibles, Flea Market, Arts & Crafts Pink Elephant Spring Fling is scheduled for Saturday, April 23 at the Middleburg Community Center.
The show, which begins at 9 a.m., benefits the Middleburg Community Center.
A country luncheon will be available at the show. Admission will be $1, with senior citizens and children priced at 50#. Dealers and others who woud like information may call either Michael Sussman in Washington, D.C. at (202) 2964989 or Vicky Moon at (703) 687-5634.
Historical Society Meeting
The historical beginnings of Shenandoah National Park will be highlighted at the April 29th meeting of the Rappahannock Historical Society. Bob Johnson, Assistant Superintendent of the Park, will present the historical film “The Gift” at the society’s meeting which will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Historical Society building on Gay Street in Washington, Va.
“The Gift” tenderly examines the early days of Shenandoah National Park, and the gift of the land by the State of Virginia to the II.S. National Park Service. The film includes scenes of the original dedication of the new park by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and visits the old Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps in the area.
Mr. Johnson will also display several scrapbooks prepared by park officials showing old homes and farmsteads which were incorporated into Shenandoah National Park.
Also at the meeting, a new slate of officers will be elected for the coming year.
The public is invited.
Young Dominion
The Young Dominion, Fauquier County’s 4H performing arts group, will present a concert, “That’s Where the Music Takes Me,” this Sunday, April 24, at Fauquier High School in Warrenton.
Joining the Fauquier youngsters on stage for two shows (2:30 and 7 p.m.) will he Rappahannock’s Susan Dennis and Julie Burke. Admission is $2.50 with proceeds going to the Young Dominion’s scholarship fund.
