Rappahannock County’s Park, the site of the recreation center across the highway from the town of Washington, is a people’s park.
No tax dollars go to its support. V olunteers raise the money necessary for its operation through fund raising events like last weekend’s Fodderstack Classic Road Race.
No county employees do the maintenance necessary to make the park a pleasant place to spend an afternoon. Volunteers keep the playground equipment in good repair, mow the grass, pick up rocks and trash, clear the exercise trail and empty the trash containers at the picnic sites along the river.
