On the other hand, the slow student has special abilities that need to be discovered and strengthened. Harris added that she would like to see a greater degree of parent involvement, a more active PTA and more parent volunteers in the schools. The schools should communicate early test scores with parents so the pupils can be tutored at home before they fall hopelessly behind. Also, Harris said, building space at the high school is the most serious financial deficiency. She feels there should be more science labs, language labs, lunch rooms, and computer training space — and the money is needed even if it means a tax increase.
