Senator Mondale might want to raise his bid and the other candidates who have not yet bid make their entries. So too the bidding on how to get to the Equal Rights Amendment passed and what each as President would do to advance that end might be re-opened. As of now, Senator Glenn has said he would use the full power of presidential exortation. Senator Mondale has said he would do what is necessary to propose and ratify the amendment. Senator Cranston has said he would lobby and lead and might deny states bridges and transportation aids if they did not pass the E.R.A. amendment. Senator Hart has said that he would go beyond “normal political pressure.”
So too, the limited bidding for the support and approval of Jesse Jackson could be continued. Most of the candidates have made the same opening offer, namely, that they see no reason why the United States should not have a black President or more certainly a black vice-president, although no one has yet offered to be the vicepresidential running mate with Jesse.
Possibly better than a standard auction would be a basket social, with the candidates bidding on the wrapped and be-ribbonned basket without knowledge of what was in it or which girl had made it and with the highest bidder getting the basket and the girl.
