The third change was deletion of a section of the policy that Estabrook said was so obvious to him that it should go without saying — that principals are not to try to influence police in any way during drug investigations. Estabrook said that educators would not try to deal with the legal aspects of drugs or “interfere with due process.”
New Books
In other business, the school board approved two new texts for use starting this fall. Procedures for the Modem Office replaces a 1976 book used in high school typing classes. In line with the “Nation at Risk” recommendations which treat business computers as a new basic, Estabrook suggested it was time to change books in Rappahannock.
Grade nine basic math classes will have a new Scott Forsman book. Both new texts were reviewed and reccommended by the teachers involved.
The 7:39 p.m. starting time was objected to by Paul Nichols who pledged there would be a more prompt starting time for 7:30 school board meetings while he’s serving. His criticism was well received by citizens in the audience.
