Rolla E. Chandler, skeppist, is reviving the almostlost art of making straw skeps, the old-fashioned type of honeybee hive.
The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association recently hosted a meeting on Red Oak Mountain, where Chandler displayed a variety of skeps constructed of such materials as rye, broomsedge, and cattails.
