Estabrook says such topics are rarely brought out at teacher orientation in other systems, and “typically, teachers don’t get that precise training until they get towards a master’s degree. ”
During orientation newcomers will each be assigned to an established teacher in a sort of “buddy system” to learn routine procedures.
Drug Policy
The school board approved changes in the drug policy. One step was to establish an appeals body of administrators other than the school superintendant to hear contested student drug discipline cases. The superintendant then would be the next higher judge and the school board would hear final appeals.
A second change would eliminate the necessity for school officials to automatically notify the state police each time a student was found in possession of controlled substances. However, the county sheriffs department would still be informed.
