Applications are now available from the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation for federal grants for private, nonprofit organizations interested in providing transportation for elderly and/or handicapped persons.
The department has been designated as the administrative agency for Virginia and will receive proposals and submit a program of projects to the federal Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA). UMTA has allocated $510,000 to Virginia which will be available on an 80 per cent federal - 20 per cent non-federal matching basis.
