For the rest of the war, Eastham served with Company D, 43rd Battalion, Partisan Rangers, the nucleus of which Mosby had formed in January, 1863. In the company was Bob Ridley’s brother, Philip Byrd Eastham. Except for occasional forays further afield, the operations of Mosby’s command took place within a rectangle marked on its corners by Alexandria, Brandy Station, Front Royal and Harper’s Ferry.
