3. Voters gave the county another of its major stories for 198.3, going to the polls on November 8 to elect Peter Luke, Washington lawyer, former Air Force prosecutor and substitute judge, commonwealth’s attorney with 65 percent of the vote.

In a hotly contested race for sheriff, deputy John Henry Woodward led a four man field with 46 percent.
