“During the late ’80s and early ’90s, Bob Ridley became very involved in the flourishing lumber business in the Davis area. In 1888, ‘Colonel’ Albert Thompson arrived from Norway, Maine, via Pennsylvania. With his family, he had done lumbering in both states. Right away, he placed a bid on the Rumbarger Lumber Company, vying with Bob Ridley — who was a proxy for unknown interests — for the purchase. Both the way in which the public auction was conducted and its results got Eastham’s back up. That was the real beginning of the fued between the two men,” his great nephew noted.
