FARM WOMEN, with all their other chores, were constantly seeking new skills to help their families and beautify their homes. At top, a depression-era project taught young girls in 4-H how to make a dress for under 60 cents. Other skills taught by home extension agents were pillow top quilt piecing (second from top), chair bottom caning (third), and box construction (bottom photo). Home demonstration classes have helped Rappahannock women in their daily tasks since the program began in 1932.
