August 15 through September 30 will be the sign-up dates for the State Conservation Cost-Share Program, which is being implemented to aid in cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay and Chowan River basins.
Farmers in Rappahannock will be eligible for State Cost Share if they have participated in one of the following conservation practices under the ASCS Agricultural Conservation Program (ACP):
• No Till Planting Into Cover Crops.
• Permanent Vegetative Cover on Critical Areas.
• Diversions.
• Reforestation of Erodible Cropland.
• Contour Farming.
• Strip Cropping Systems.
• Sediment Retention, Erosion or Water Control Structures.
• Terrace Systems.
• Sod Waterways.
One conservation practice, Grass Filter Strips, is available only through the state program. ACP participation is not required. These strips must be installed within 100 feet of the border of live or intermittent waterways.
