The first commercial vinifera vineyard in Virginia, Piedmont was founded by then 75-year-old Mrs. Thomas Furness. The 30-acre vineyard in Fauquier produces only white wines: Chardonnay, Semilion and Seyval Blanc. Tours are given Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Piedmont spokesman said that the weather in August will determine the quality and quantity of the 1984 harvest.
