Brown, 13, said she had never traveled before the trip, which began late last June and continued through early July:
“For me, it was a new experience,” she said.
Brown added that she enjoyed the Riviera resort area, calling it “a place I’d like to see again.” She and members of her group spent one day there, visiting the resort town of Cannes and nearby Monaco.
Much of her trip consisted of touring castles and cathedrals, including Notre Dame. Since the group arrived at their stops in evening times and returned to their bus by 8 a.m. each day, it meant, for her and others “not a chance to see a whole lot
“We spent lots of time on the bus going from place to place.”
Included in the long bus rides were lunch and rest breaks in small towns. How did she find French cooking?
“Not very good,” Brown recalled. “The meat was raw, much of the fruit was raw."
“If it hadn’t been for some of the fruits and pastries, we would've starved,” added her mother.
Brown said restaurant service also left much to be desired:
“Sometimes, you have to sit and wait as long as one hour before getting anything,” she said. There was no organization in the restaurants,” adding that either several waiters stopped by a table, or none at alL
