What is clear, however, is that the governor has a situation on his hands which is loaded, at least figuratively, with dynamite. It is, of course, dangerous to the prison personnel and inmates in a physical sense. This has to be his top concern.
But beyond that, it is also freighted with political danger for Robb and the Democratic party. His record on corrections will mostly assuredly be a major issue in next year’s races for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general as well as in those for the House of Delegates.
For these and a multitude of other reasons it is safe to assume that the place of the corrections system has risen considerably on the governor’s worry list in the last 10 weeks.
