If an overhead electric line falls or comes in contact with your car or truck, DON’T PANIC! The safest thing to do is STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE until your utility company turns off the power and confirms that conditions are safe. Instruct all other people in the area to stay away.
If there is immediate danger, such as fire, then you and any passengers must jump completely clear of the vehicle. JUMP WITH BOTH FEET TOGETHER AND ARMS IN THE AIR AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. DON’T ALLOW ANY PART OF YOUR BODY TO TOUCH THE VEHICLE WHILE ANOTHER PART TOUCHES THE GROUND. After hitting the ground, move away slowly taking small steps. Each person in the vehicle must follow this procedure individually. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TOUCH ANOTHER PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE AFTER YOU ARE OUT. Be sure not to touch or step on any other wires which may be dangling or on the ground.
