In 14 days, Rappahannock County residents will be celebrating Thanksgiving. Recent Extension publications have included valuable information about one of Thanksgiving’s main entrees — the turkey.
Two articles, “Turkey — Anyone?” and “Mr. Turkey for the Holiday Season,” contain particularly useful information regarding the purchasing and care of the tin key. They are reprinted below.
For further information on how to buy, store, thaw, stuff or prepare your holiday bird, call the local Extension Office at 675-3619. Look in next week’s edition of the Rappahannock News for creative uses of leftover turkey. Until then, gobble, gobble. Mr. Turkey for the holiday season

While roast turkey is eaten year round by most Americans, the holiday season still remains the traditional time that we enjoy the most. Turkey is one of the fine foods that originated in America, and remains one of the most economical foods with the very best nutritive value of any of the meats.
Like any other fine food, the consumer must handle turkey in a manner that will keep it wholesome until it is consumed. Turkeys come to the supermarket in a most sanitary condition — more hygienically free of contaminants and spoilage organisms than any consumer could possibly make them.
