people who tend to dominate others, who just seem to know (so they think) what is best for others, and don’t understand why others don’t recognize the intrinsic brilliance of their thinking. We see it in politics, where equally intelligent and equally honorable people disagree violently and consider each other to be either idiotic or dishonorable. We see it in labor/management, international disarmament conferences, husband/wife and many other relationships.
Worst of all, we see it in God/ man relationships. We hear it expressed sometimes with words like “God gave us a mind to use.” It is true that God did give us a mind to use, but he wants us to use it in subjection to him, not to justify rebelling against him. He warns us of this in Proverbs 3:5-6, where he says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Did those words register with you? He says, “Trust in the Lord...lean NOT unto thy own understanding.” In other words, he is telling us to do something that is totally contrary to our human nature if we would be successful in his estimation. Trusting ourselves can lead to trouble even in person-toperson relationships, and will definitely lead to disaster in the Godto-person relationship. The marvelous truth is that when we trust him as revealed in the principles and precepts of the Bible-we find him to be totally trustworthy.
