Joyce Duvall has been a regular customer at Chipr k Holloa for years. As an interior .. .orator, she used the Sperryville shop to find special decorative touches for her clients.
In August, Joyce took a giant leap from customer to owner when she bought Chipmunk Hollow from Howard Maree and John Norberg. They had owned and operated the shop for five years.
Besides buying the shop, Joyce bought all of the inventory, so there will not be any major changes in Chipmunk Hollow’s look.
“We will still have the ‘country’ things because I like them and they are popular,” Joyce said. “I will begin adding other things that I like including pictures that aren’t necessarily ‘country’ looking. I will keep most of it as is, though, and we’ll continue the items that are exclusive to Chipmunk Hollow.”
Joyce plans to be in the shop most of the time, but she does operate her interior decorating business in Woodbridge on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Her only employee, Jane Allen, keeps the shop open on those days.
“I’ll continue the interior decorating for a while, but I’m hoping to incorporate it into the business here and offer interior decorating to the community,” Joyce said. “It has been a lot of work getting things straightened out, and then our well flooded during the recent rains and we had to have a new pump, but I was pleased with the number of customers in the latter part of last week.”
She said she has also been surprised by the number of local people who have stopped into the shop to welcome her to the community.
“I guess in bigger places people get so busy that they forget to do nice things like that, but I’ve really appreciated the opportunity to meet the people here,” Joyce said.
