20YEARSAGO RAPPAHANNOCK NEWS From the Nov. 18, 1965 edition

After several months of negotiations

with the Der partment of Health, Education and Welfare, a plan of desegregation for Rappahannock County Schools nears acceptance by that department.

Effective with the start of the 1967-1968 school year, all Rappahannock students must be withdrawn from the Carver School.

In order to provide adequate housing on a desegregated basis for children at the elementary school level, a 21-acre site has been purchased on Highway .211 near Flatwood for the erection of an elementary school.

The first part of road construction on Route 211 near Massie’s Corner was opened to traffic Tuesday.
