Wakefield School in Huntly will hold elections this week for the president of the student body as well as > vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. In a special assembly that was held so that the student body could hear campaign speeches from the three groups of candidates, Headmaster William E. Lynne said that the person elected to be president of the student body would be a symbol of the students and as such should be someone responsible and of whom the students were proud. Lynn added that one purpose of student government was to teach the workings of democracy and to teach the students how to make democracy work for them.
Three slates of candidates presented themselves to the student body. The first candidate to speak was Sean Dolan of Warrenton who is running for the office of president. Included on his ticket are Ann Waesche, of Gainesville, for vicepresident, Lisa Johnson, of Delaplane, for treasurer, and Lori Paluck of Warrenton as secretary. In his speech Dolan stressed that as president he would help students to understand the workings of the Student Government system at Wakefield and to get involved. He added, “I am going to listen...you will not be kept separate.”
Lee Poore, of Washington, was the second to speak. His running mates are Cameron Bishopp, of Warrenton, as vice-president, Vale
