GOP director ousted
RICHMOND — The forced resignation of Sandy Scholte as political director of Virginia’s Republican Party does not stem from the party’s losses in Tuesday’s election, state GOP Chairman Donald W. Huffman said Saturday.
“It’s a personnel matter, and I don’t think it should be discussed in the newspapers,” Mr. Huffman said.
From his home in Roanoke, Mr.cHuffman said Mrs. Scholte’s resignation Friday came at his direction, but he declined any further comment. He also declined comment when asked whether anyone else in the state GOP’s hierarchy would resign.
Mrs. Scholte could not be reached for comment.
Don Edmonds, who replaced her as executive director last summer, simply said the resignation was an internal party matter.
As political director, Mrs. Scholte headed the party’s efforts on behalf of Republican candidates for the House of Delegates in last week’s election. She had no role in the GOP campaigns for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general.
