For whatever the reason, moderator Bill Monroe, retired NBC News correspondent and former moderator of “Meet the Press” who now edits the Washington Journalism Review, faced a practically empty hall. But the veteran newsman never mentioned the poor showing by county voters.
With the leaves again in blaze orange, the reassessment notices out and the apples mostly gathered, “now is the time to pick the supervisors,” he noted, adding that in Rappahannock, such political decisions are resolved in a quieter, more decent manner minus the garish carryings on that mark national elections. “We’re not going to ask the candidates if they’ve ever spent the night with someone deemed inappropriate.” But if a question of that ilk should sneak in, he assured the candidates they could reply, “None of your business!”
