Burglary was dismissed as a motive when a family member combed the ruins and reported all the furnishings stored in the house were still there. “Brass beds, quilts, a chest, stereo, all were accounted for,” Sheriff Woodward said. Furniture stored upstairs fell right through the floor when it collapsed, but everything was still there, he said.
“You could call it suspicious, but we’ve got nothing to go on,” he said. The arson investigator said that the entire scene could be reconstructed, but offered no assurances that any more could be determined from that laborious task, the sheriff continued. “We just can’t determine the cause.”
