‘Tin Men’

Tin Men will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. A very American comedy, Tin Men takes an old form for its structure — it’s the story of a feud. Backing his brand-new Cadillac out of the dealer’s showroom, Bill Babowsky (Richard DreyfUss) is hit in the rear by Ernest Tilley (Danny DeVito). "I’m gonna get this guy,” vows DreyfUss, and for the rest of the movie the two men — rival tin men — find ways to torture and humiliate each othef. DreyfUss’s plot is more fiendish: setting his sights on DeVito’s wife (Barbara Hershey), the dapper single man seduces Hershey and calls his foe to gloat. DeVito, sick of his wife to begin with, pulls his own twist: You want her? She’s yours. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

Arthritis Forum at CMH

The Arthritis Foundation will sponsor a free presentation to help victims of arthritis and their families cope with the disease.

The program will be held Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the dining room of the Culpeper Memorial Hospital. Dr. Jack Perlmutter, Culpeper orthopedic surgeon, Susan Vignola, Culpeper clinical social worker, and Dr. Greg Pudhorodsky, rheumatologist, will lead the discussion.

Arthritis is one of the most prevalent diseases in America, and chances that a person will get it increase with age, the Arthritis Foundation said.

Culpeper Baptist bazaar ^

Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community will hold its 1987 Christmas bazaar Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The facility is located on Route 15 south of Culpeper. Some of the handmade crafts to be sold include Christmas decorations, wreaths, afghans, dolls, bird houses, ceramics, woodwork, baked goods and more. There will also be a white elephant sale. Begin your Christmas shopping with us. Santa Claus will be stopping by from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

2nd All Hallows Eve art carnival

There will be trick or treat surprises, a community potluck supper and a circle for creative sharing with "open mike” Halloween night, Saturday, Oct. 31, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Middle Street Gallery. Everyone is invited. A donation of $1 is requested (more if you can, less if you can’t). Kids are admitted free.

The circle for creative sharing could begin at 7:30 p.m. It will take place in the ceremonial atmosphere created by the art work of the “Symbolism and Ritual” show now on exhibit at the Gallery. The show includes original African art as well as the work of local artists. Anyone who would like to share poetry, stories, songs, music, Halloween or other rituals, dance, etc. is invited to do so.
