Following the recommendation of its Planning Commission, the Washington Town Council approved a subdivision request from the Rev. Richard Scott. The planners made the recommendation after a special meeting held before the regular council meeting on June 9.
Rev. Scott applied for a permit to subdivide his 2.32-acre parcel on Piedmont Ave. into three lots. One would contain an existing house on Piedmont Ave., while the two new lots would share a driveway with access through a “pipestem” of land from the street to the lots behind.
Rev. Scott explained that he had chosen the layout to provide the best views of the mountains from the two rear lots, and also to eliminate the need for easements through the front lot or building a street to transportation department specifications. “I chose the lesser of two evils,” he said.
The Planning Commission’s recommendation came after provisions were attached to the permit which require Rev. Scott to dedicate a 25-foot strip of land to the town as a right-of-way, and to post a performance
