Saturday, June 25, marks the 200th anniversary of Virginia as a state under the U.S. Constitution.
On this date, the first U.S. commemorative stamp honoring Virginia statehood will go on sale at Williamsburg.
In observance of this day, Montpelier Station, home of James Madison, one of the signers of the U.S. Constitution from Virginia, has been authorized a Special Pictorial Cancellation. The Montpelier Station
Post Office will be open on Saturday, June 25, from 11 a.‘m. to 3 p.m. for the sale of current postage and philatelic products and to offer the Special Pictorial Cancellation.
“June 25 represents a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for stamp collectors. Mark your calendar today and plan to be at Montpelier Station
on the 25th of June to join in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Virginia’s admission to the Union,” said a Postal Service spokesman at the Charlottesville office.
