He cautioned that county residents with scanners which monitor fire and rescue or law enforcement frequencies should be aware that the exercise will be conducted next Tuesday, and that there should be no cause for alarm if messages concerning an aerial release of radiation from the North Anna power station are heard some time that day.
Again, Col. Knuepfer stressed, all radio and telephone messages concerning the exercise will be preceded by the statement, “This is a VOPEX message.”
No actions will be taken during the exercise other than activating the alert system, Col. Knuepfer said. At a later date, an evaluation and critique of the system’s performance will be held.
