Fanners may sign up through July 1 for annual or long-term agreements for conservation practices to be carried out in 1988 (and future years if a long-term agreement is signed). Requests must be made on an application form filed in the ASCS office by July 1 and before a practice is started, according to T.V. Williams Jr., chairman of the ASC Committee.
Mr. Williams listed the following eligible practices: Establishing or improving permanent vegetat ive cover, livestock watering facilities, sod waterways, planting or improving forest trees, and animal waste facilities.
Emphasis is on saving the most soil, so sign up on the area of your farm that is causing the most soil erosion, Mr. Williams suggested.
