Potomac Edison is conducting vegetation patrols by helicopter this summer, as part of the company’s ongoing maintenance program. Helicopter flights began June 21 in and around Luray, and then patrols will be conducted in the Winchester area, weather permitting. Crews will be looking for overgrown vegetation under and around subtransmission and extra high voltage power lines. During summer storms, overgrown trees could fall onto electrical lines and cause power outages. With these inspections, Potomac Edison can pinpoint areas near transmission lines that need trimming, to help ensure reliable service.
