The Sheriffs Department is investigating two recent burglaries, one at the Sperryville'Exxon last weekend and another two weeks ago at Tom Massie’s farm on Rt. 211.
According to Capt. Ed Streapy, Rappahannock’s investigator, the break-in at the Exxon station occurred between 10:15 p.m. Sunday, June 19, and 5:50 a.m. the next day. He said the thief, or thieves, gained entrance by breaking out one of the panels in a garage bay door. They then broke through an interior door into the office area.
Charles Clinedinst, the station’s owner, reported that an NCR cash register and an undetermined but substantial amount of money were taken. He added that a number of documents, keys and other items kept in the register are missing as well.
